# get_aria_role

ENTRY POINT for working on a native primitive / small element. Returns the ARIA contract for the role (required/supported props, name source), the native HTML elements that carry it, and suggested_queries (ACT searches) to run next. Also returns applicable_scs: the WCAG criteria that apply from the role structurally (the floor) at the chosen level, plus a tiered verification checklist. Same drill-down as get_apg_pattern: search_act → get_wcag_sc → audit_html. Use get_apg_pattern instead for composite components (dialog, tabs, …).

## Example call (MCP tools/call, JSON-RPC 2.0)

```json
{
  "jsonrpc": "2.0",
  "id": 1,
  "method": "tools/call",
  "params": {
    "name": "get_aria_role",
    "arguments": {
      "role": "<role>"
    }
  }
}
```

## Why get_aria_role is rated Low

Even though get_aria_role only reads data, uncontrolled read access leaks sensitive information and racks up API costs: an agent caught in a retry loop can make thousands of calls a minute without anyone noticing.

## Use case

AI agents call get_aria_role to retrieve information from A11y Assist without modifying anything. It is typically the context-gathering step in research, monitoring, and reporting workflows, before the agent takes action elsewhere.

## Recommended policy (PolicyLayer)

```json
{
  "version": "1",
  "default": "deny",
  "tools": {
    "get_aria_role": {}
  }
}
```
