## Example call (MCP tools/call, JSON-RPC 2.0)

```json
{
  "jsonrpc": "2.0",
  "method": "tools/call",
  "params": {
    "name": "git_diff",
    "arguments": {}
  }
}
```

## Why git_diff is rated Low

git_diff retrieves and displays version control metadata (diffs) to show what has changed in the workspace. It has no side effects, does not execute code, create, modify, or delete files. The blast radius if misused is minimal; an agent could only view information already in the repository. This is a classic Read operation.

From the tool's own definition: "Tool description states it 'Show[s] the diff of changes' and is 'Useful for reviewing what has changed'—these are read-only operations that retrieve and display information without modifying data."

## Use case

AI agents call git_diff to retrieve information from CoWork OS without modifying anything. It is typically the context-gathering step in research, monitoring, and reporting workflows, before the agent takes action elsewhere.

## Recommended policy (PolicyLayer)

Verdict: **Allowed**. Enforced by the PolicyLayer MCP gateway (https://policylayer.com/mcp-gateway) before a call reaches CoWork OS:

```json
{
  "version": "1",
  "default": "deny",
  "tools": {
    "git_diff": {}
  }
}
```
