# get_cloud_diagram_cost_snapshot

Use this when the user wants a cost snapshot for a specific cloud infrastructure diagram layer over a time period — the API-reported total, trendingPct as a percentage (25 means 25%, null when no prior value is available), the top five resources and top five services by cost, and the last twelve trend buckets. Both dates are inclusive. Requires the diagram layer ID and a startDate/endDate (YYYY-MM-DD). Do NOT use this for account-wide cost analysis (use run_query) or budgets (use list_budgets).

  "method": "tools/call",
  "params": {
    "name": "get_cloud_diagram_cost_snapshot",

    }
  }
}

## Why get_cloud_diagram_cost_snapshot is rated Low

Even though get_cloud_diagram_cost_snapshot only reads data, uncontrolled read access leaks sensitive information and racks up API costs: an agent caught in a retry loop can make thousands of calls a minute without anyone noticing.

## Use case

AI agents call get_cloud_diagram_cost_snapshot to retrieve information from Doit without modifying anything. It is typically the context-gathering step in research, monitoring, and reporting workflows, before the agent takes action elsewhere.

## Recommended policy (PolicyLayer)

Verdict: **Allowed**. Enforced by the PolicyLayer MCP gateway (https://policylayer.com/mcp-gateway) before a call reaches Doit:

```json
{
  "version": "1",
  "default": "deny",
  "tools": {
    "get_cloud_diagram_cost_snapshot": {}
  }
}
