## Example call (MCP tools/call, JSON-RPC 2.0)

```json
{
  "jsonrpc": "2.0",
  "id": 1,
  "method": "tools/call",
  "params": {
    "name": "cherry-pick",
    "arguments": {}
  }
}
```

## Why cherry-pick is rated High

Cherry-pick executes a git operation that modifies the current branch by replaying commits onto it. It triggers an external git operation with side effects on repository state, can introduce conflicts, and creates new commits — making it an Execute-category action. Misuse by an AI agent could corrupt branch history or introduce unintended code changes, warranting high severity.

From the tool's own definition: "'Applies specific commits to the current branch' and 'Returns structured data with applied commits, any conflicts, and new commit hash'"

## Use case

AI agents invoke cherry-pick to trigger actions in Build. What it does depends on the arguments the agent supplies, and its effects often reach beyond the immediate call: builds kicked off, notifications sent, workflows started.

## Recommended policy (PolicyLayer)

Verdict: **Rate-limited**. Enforced by the PolicyLayer MCP gateway (https://policylayer.com/mcp-gateway) before a call reaches Build:

```json
{
  "version": "1",
  "default": "deny",
  "tools": {
    "cherry-pick": {
      "limits": [
        {
          "counter": "cherry-pick_rate",
          "window": "minute",
          "max": 10,
          "scope": "grant"
        }
      ]
    }
  }
}
```
