What is Agentic Commerce Protocol?

1 min read Updated

An open standard co-developed by Stripe and OpenAI that defines how AI agents discover products, initiate purchases, and complete checkout on behalf of users through structured commerce flows.

WHY IT MATTERS

When an AI agent needs to buy something — book a flight, order supplies, pay for an API — it needs a structured way to discover what's available, understand pricing, and complete the transaction. ACP provides this structure.

ACP is significant because it brings Stripe's payment infrastructure to agent-initiated commerce, creating a standard that merchants can implement once and support across all agent platforms.

HOW POLICYLAYER USES THIS

PolicyLayer's spending policies govern what agents can purchase and how much they can spend, regardless of whether the transaction flows through ACP, x402, or other payment rails.
