What is Agentic Wallet?

1 min read Updated

A blockchain wallet controlled or operated by an AI agent, subject to policy constraints (spending limits, allowlists, chain restrictions) enforced at a proxy layer without custodying private keys.

WHY IT MATTERS

Traditional wallets assume a human signer. Agentic wallets are operated by AI agents that need to send transactions autonomously — paying for API access, executing DeFi strategies, or settling agent-to-agent transactions.

The challenge: giving an agent spending authority without giving it unlimited access to funds. Policy enforcement at the wallet layer — spending caps, recipient allowlists, per-transaction limits — provides the control.

HOW POLICYLAYER USES THIS

PolicyLayer's original product enforces spending policies on agentic wallets without custodying private keys. The agent signs transactions; PolicyLayer decides whether they should go through.
